Be a veterinary student for a day!
MSU CVM is committed to inspiring future generations to pursue careers in the field of veterinary medicine. Our doors are always open to those with an interest in learning more about the veterinary profession. VetAspire was created to provide all potential students, regardless of means or resources, the chance to visit our college and interact with veterinary professionals.
VetAspire is an exciting program that enables a select group of high school and undergraduate students to spend a day at MSU CVM. On six occasions a year, up to ten students are selected and participate in the program, giving them the opportunity to experience the field of veterinary medicine first-hand. All sessions begin at 8:00am and end at 4:00pm. Given that this program takes place during school hours, an excuse is provided to those that attend.
The program is specifically for students who:
-
are high school sophomores to college seniors
-
are educationally, economically and/or socially disadvantaged
All students who apply are considered, but priority is given to those who meet the program criteria.
VetAspire is led by actual MSU CVM professors with the assistance of current veterinary students, and those attending participate in clinics, lectures, and hands-on activities in the Wise Center, home to the MSU College of Veterinary Medicine.
Our only expectations of participants are that they are committed to participating in all program activities and are respectful of themselves and others at all times (including animals) during the program.
It is the hope of MSU CVM leaders that by exposing these underserved students to the field, their interest in it will grow, and they will ultimately choose veterinary medicine as a career path. Participation in the program also provides these students with an understanding of the real-world impact of math, science and communications training.
